ABOUT US
We’re committed to serve nurses first – make a profit second.
Why We’re in Business
In 2005, Florida had the highest number of malpractice claims in the nation against nurses.
Many insurers stopped writing policies covering nurses.
Nurse Practitioners were forced by traditional carriers to buy policies with costly, high limits.
High limits attracted fee-hungry lawyers looking for deep pockets.
The Florida Nurses Association set out to find an answer.
Result: Sophia Palmer Risk Retention Group.
At Last, Nurses Malpractice Insurance on an Occurrence Form
Sophia Palmer provides protection you can’t buy from traditional insurance companies.
We’re the only carrier offering Nurse Practitioners an Occurrence Policy that covers incidents not reported until a few years after the policy expires.
Claims Made policies offered by other carriers only cover claims made during the policy period.
You May Think You’re Covered When You’re Not
If the facility where you work has “finite insurance,” you don’t have State required malpractice coverage.
Consult your management to find out how the facility is insured.
Contact us to get covered if your facility has a “finite” policy.
Our Prices Are Competitive
Sophia Palmer’s rate for a Nurse Practitioner’s Occurrence Policy is similar to or less than the current rate charged by other carriers for a less desirable Claims Made Policy.
As a young company, our rates can be competitive because we have no large claims spread over a number of years.
Our low limits don’t attract plaintiffs’ lawyers.
We offer limits of $100,000 per event up to $300,000 aggregate for a policy year, or $250,000 / $750,000.
Members of the Florida Nurses Association get 10 percent off our published rates.
